This post-qualifying diploma is designed for experienced counsellors and psychotherapists from a variety of theoretical backgrounds and specialisms who would like to develop the skills and knowledge to work therapeutically with 11- 18 year olds in a variety of settings and with a range of presenting issues. The course consists of experiential exercises, theoretical input, skills practice sessions, case studies and time for reflecting on one’s own practice. A placement is being offered as part of the course to run along side the training where students will be given clients and will receive supervision by very experienced and qualified clinical supervisors.

Structure
This course will be delivered over three 10 week terms starting on 3rd October 2020.
The start and end of term will consist of a one day workshop while the rest of term would be a 3-hour evening session.

Course Leads
Helen Newman:
Helen Newman is a BACP Accredited Counsellor, Family/Systemic Practitioner, Play Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. She has been offering talking therapy and creative ways of working with children, adults and young people for over twenty years.
Having been trained in a number of modalities, initially existential and person-centred, she then trained at The Westminster Pastoral Foundation, ‘Working with Adolescence’ from a psychodynamic perspective.
In her work in schools and a young peoples’ agency setting, she found that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques could often be a helpful part of counselling for some clients and successfully gained a qualification in CBT in 2007.
Most recently she completed her training as a Family Systemic Practitioner with The Institute of Family Therapy.
For the past eighteen years Helen has worked in a number of schools, including many secondary schools, a grammar school and a pupil referral unit as a school counsellor and with one project counselling pupils at risk of permanent exclusion. She used her school experience to make the move into managing school counselling services, assisting in the recruitment and setting up of counselling provision in many of the schools in the London Borough of Hillingdon. She also worked as a play therapist and supervisor of counsellors working in school settings in Surrey for a school counselling charity.
Helen has a broad therapeutic outlook and extensive toolkit in working with children and adolescents. Ultimately, she works from a client centred perspective with the relationship at the centre, incorporating the modalities of her training and techniques as appropriate to the individual client.
For the past seven years Helen has been managing a busy youth counselling agency for the London Borough of Hillingdon. She has most recently accepted her next challenge of managing a youth counselling service in Hertfordshire. She has a small private practice in Buckinghamshire.

Course Fees
The cost of the course is £2500.00 inc. VAT
The fees for the year 2020 are £2500.00 (£2083.33 +VAT). (The Albany Centre provides free lunches and refreshments throughout all trainings).
Fees can be paid in instalments by monthly standing order with a non-refundable deposit to secure a place (ie total yearly fee of £2500.00 comprises £700.00 non-refundable deposit on enrolment plus 10 months of £180.00 per month starting 1st February then running till 1st November inclusive).
Please note that accepting a place and joining the programme commits the individual for one year so that the student is liable for that year’s fees whether or not they continue/complete the year.
