Changing or transferring counselling training can feel like a significant decision.
People consider transferring for many different reasons. Sometimes circumstances change personally or professionally. Sometimes a course no longer feels like the right fit. Occasionally training pathways become disrupted unexpectedly and students find themselves needing to reconsider their next steps.
At The Albany Centre in St Albans, we are happy to offer informal conversations with students who may be exploring the possibility of continuing their counselling training elsewhere.
We are currently making time available for informal conversations ahead of our next diploma intake beginning on 29th May 2026.
About The Albany Centre
The Albany Centre is a small, relationally-focused training institute with a strong emphasis on depth, self-awareness, and the development of the practitioner as well as the practitioner’s skills.
Our Professional Diploma in Counselling is taught one weekend per month, and we have historically welcomed students travelling from a considerable distance to train with us.
We recognise that transferring training is not simply an administrative process. It is also a personal and professional transition that deserves thoughtful consideration. Different students will be looking for different things at different stages of their development.
Some people may prioritise location or accreditation pathways. Others may be looking for a smaller, more relational and experiential training environment with an emphasis on personal growth alongside clinical development.
Exploring Transfer Possibilities
We are open to conversations with students who already have previous counselling training or relevant experience and who wish to explore whether continuing their development at The Albany Centre may be appropriate for them.
These conversations may include:
- discussing previous training and experience
- exploring possible recognition of prior learning
- considering whether Albany feels like a suitable fit
- thinking through practical questions around timing, structure, and commitment
There is absolutely no pressure or obligation attached to these conversations. Sometimes people simply need a space to pause, reflect, and think clearly about what makes sense next.
