I am a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have obtained a Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma (with Distinction) and a Masters Degree (with Distinction) from the University of Hertfordshire in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling. All of my qualifications are accredited by the BACP. I also hold a BA Honours Degree in Modern Languages from Bristol University and worked in investment banking and commodity trading before changing my career.
I work with adults, young people and older adults on an open-ended basis.
I have particular experience in working with:
- Low self-esteem,
- Bereavement and loss,
- Sexual abuse,
- Sexual identity,
- Coping with stressful work environments,
- Relationships (professional and personal),
- Family breakdowns (child’s and adult’s perspective),
- Parenting issues,
- Identity issues,
- Self-harm and self-sabotaging behaviours.
I will provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space within which to explore whatever is troubling you. People attend counselling for many varied reasons with everyone’s story being unique. Maybe you’re feeling unheard and powerless in your relationships, maybe you’re feeling lost or very low or constantly angry. Maybe you’re feeling out of touch with your feelings altogether. Counselling can give you the chance to stop and focus on you and your feelings: to process and understand what you are experiencing.
Painful feelings, troubled relationships and repeated patterns of behaviour will often in some way have their roots in past experiences. It can be difficult, however, to see the connections and to understand how our past experiences are impacting upon our lives today. It’s not always easy to see how we relate to ourselves and to others and to see how we get in the way of ourselves. Together, and at your pace, we can explore underlying anxieties, beliefs and thought processes and hidden parts of your “self” with the aim of moving towards greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and a stronger feeling of ownership over your life.
As well as working in private practice in St Albans, I am a staff counsellor at the Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living.
I undertake regular supervision of my work in line with BACP guidelines.
Feel free to email or call me to arrange an initial session which will give you the opportunity to talk about what has prompted you to seek counselling and for you to decide whether counselling is something you would like to pursue. Sessions are 50 minutes, once a week, at a regular time agreed between us.
My fees are £50 per session.
