2 day workshop 10th & 17th May 2013

During Focusing Level Two participants continue to develop as Focuser and Companion. Exercises are designed to support working at a deeper level. At the same time the Focuser is always in charge of their session and each person is encouraged to work at their own pace. Within the group there is time to share and discuss experiences of Focusing partnerships. We will expand upon Focusing theory with the aim of presenting new ideas clearly. This includes examples and opportunities to ask questions. Completion of Level One is required before joining Level Two,

Specific topics that will be covered include:

Building upon Gendlin’s ideas:

  • Clearing a space
  • Focusing steps
  • The implicit and explicit
  • Focusing at the edge of awareness
  • The Living Forward Energy

Building upon Self-in-Presence

  • Presence and partiality
  • Presence skills

Wholebody Focusing

Focusing demonstrations and exercises, includes working in pairs

Elizabeth trained on the MA in Focusing and Experiential Psychotherapy at the University of East Anglia and Paula trained as a focusing teacher with Ann Weiser Cornell;  both of us received a Focusing Trainer certificate from the Focusing Institute in New York. We are both members of the British Focusing Teachers Association and Accredited Counsellors with the BACP.

Paula and Elizabeth are Person-centred counsellors and supervisors. We find that Focusing increases our congruence, even when we are experiencing something very vague and difficult to grasp. It involves listening with a special quality of presence that is empathic and completely accepting.
